The Mississippi State Medical Association and the Mississippi State Medical Association Alliance were pleased to announce the change in name of the Mississippi Physician Health Program Family Fund to the John M. McRae Memorial Family Fund.  This announcement was made during the MSMA House of Delegates meeting on Friday August 11, 2017.  The article from the Journal MSMA describes the life and practice of this honorable physician who passed away on April 2, 2017.  His wife, Eileene McRae, is a past MSMA Alliance President and still actively involved.  The MPHP is a confidential first line resource for physicians and other licensed health care professionals who suffer from potentially impairing conditions such as substance use disorders. The MPHP coordinates effective detection, evaluation, treatment, and aftercare monitoring of physicians with addictive disorders and other psychiatric illnesses. Their primary focus is on intervention and recovery, with long term, intensive monitoring.  This family fund supports the children and spouses of physicians, while in treatment, and helps them maintain a sense of normalcy while their physician family member is recovering.  Examples would be helping a family pay for  the continuation of ballet lessons or paying for sports fees up to covering electricity bills and anything in between.  Maintaining routine and helping the family function  with minimal interruptions in their daily life is the goal of this fund.  Please consider making this fund a part of your donation designation at our next scholarship fundraising event.
